As you can see, your tour of the park's attractive animal reserve will give you some prime views of your favorite creatures!

What's the Safari ride all about?

Will I enjoy the Disney's Animal Kingdom safari attraction?

Picture: White rhino seen on the Kilimanjaro Safari Ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, FL Disney's Animal Kingdom is the 4th and newest Disney theme park in Orlando, Florida.

As the park's name suggests, "nature and animals" are the central themes of this fun park...which seems like it's the "marriage" of a world-class zoo with a modern amusement park.

If you like animals, then, yes--you'll like the Kilimanjaro Safari ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom!

Photo note: to your left, you see the picture of a White Rhino which was taken along the safari tour.

What's the premise of the Kilimanjaro Safari ride?

You're in Africa, hitting the back roads in a large, all-terrain vehicle. After boarding your vehicle, you'll lurch along (the ride isn't 100% smooth) as if you were on a real African safari. You'll head through the park's safari compound spotting African animal species as you go.

Roads are wet, even muddy...and at times your vehicle may splash through water which covers the road. It's all designed to make you feel as if you're far from civilization! In addition to animals, you may spot a waterfall or two, plus geysers, lakes and other props...such as a faux-rickety bridge.

Is the Kilimanjaro Safari ride crowded?

Picture: Flock of flamingos gathered at a pond; Kilimanjaro Safari Ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park The Kilimanjaro Safari Ride is quite popular. Whether or not it's crowded depends on what time of the year you visit the theme park...and what time of the day you try to board the ride.

One strategy is to head to the Safari attraction early in the day before the lines have time to build.

You may also grab a Fast Pass for the Kilimanjaro Safari attraction. You'll have to walk to the back of the park to get your Fast Pass, and then you'll be told to return during a specific time period later in the day. This means that you'll need to explore other attractions while you wait; then you must return to the Safari ride again later. However, when you return, you'll get to enter a special Fast Pass line...which is much shorter than the "regular" line is.

If you don't wish to return later, you will be able to view the approximate waiting time before you ever enter the line. If you feel that the waiting time is reasonable, go ahead and enter. There are interesting things to do in line, which will help keep your mind occupied. Television monitors run interesting shows featuring pictures of African animals and include a number of fun facts.

Now, the most unusual animal picture from the safari---

What's this pink animal snoozing by the lake in his attractive compound?

It's a pink hippo!

Normally, a hippopotamus is gray, right? And normally, this particular hippo is gray, too.

Our safari tour guide explained that the hippo's sweat is pink. And, since he's basking in the sun, he's sweating...and appears as if he's a pink hippopotamus!
