Halloween at Disney World
Enjoy "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!"
In the slide show above, you're viewing pictures of fun dances with Disney characters at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. When does the fun begin? Every September and October at Disney World's Magic Kingdom!
What can you do at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party?
Go trick-or-treating, see fun parades & fireworks...and dance with your favorite characters!
The Magic Kingdom theme park is the center of Halloween fun at Walt Disney World. While there are 4 different theme parks within Walt Disney World, Halloween-lovers will want to make a bee-line for the Magic Kingdom. By day, you'll find the park laden with cute Halloween decorations. But, night time is when the Magic Kingdom REALLY gets hopping---with Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! What kinds of fun can you have at Mickey's Not So Scary party? Here's a list! 1.) Trick or treat stations are available throughout the park, dispensing candy, chocolates, raisins and other goodies. Adults are VERY welcome to go trick-or-treating right along with the kids. Even if there aren't ANY children in your group, adults are made to feel right at home along the trick-or-treat trails. 2.) Dance parties with Goofy, Stitch, and other famous Disney characters are held. In the slide show at the top of this page, you saw photos of 2 different dance parties going on at Mickey's Not So Scary Party in recent years. Lively music and character appearances make these "must do" activities at the party. Stitch's dance party...called Club 626, took the stage in Tomorrowland in both 2009 and 2010...and is returning again in 2011! The 2nd dance party for 2011 features Woody & friends from Toy Story...and is held in the Frontierland section of the Magic Kingdom (at the Diamond Horseshoe in Liberty Square.) 3.) Enjoy a cute Halloween parade featuring Disney "good guy" characters, and Disney villains, too! (You can see pictures of the "Boo to you" Halloween parade just below in the next section.)
For 2011, the Halloween parade times will be at 8:15 pm and 10:30 pm. The parade starts in Frontierland, heads towards Cinderella's Castle, and then makes its way up Main Street to the front of the park. As with any Disney parade, the crowd starts staking out their seats along the curbside early. But, with so many cute activities going on at the Halloween party, it can be difficult to want to leave them to claim a viewing spot! 4.) Special Halloween fireworks! Halloween fireworks are another one of the top highlights at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. This exciting spectacle, called "Happy HalloWishes," may be seen from several points in the park, but most people agree that in front of Cinderella's Castle is the best. If you stand in front of the Castle, you'll be able to see the parts of the fireworks show that are lower to the ground. The trade off isn't appealing though. The spots in front of Cinderella's Castle fill up early, so you'll miss plenty of fun at the party while holding your place.
You may view the Happy HalloWishes fireworks at 9:30 pm this year, weather permitting. It's possible that there might be a time change this year...but not probable, since that time has worked well in the past. These special fireworks are shown ONLY to Mickey's Party guests, and may NOT be seen at the park any other way. The Magic Kingdom's regular fireworks display is shown on non-party evenings.5.) A Disney Villain's stage show: Do you love Disney's "bad guys?" Lucky you...Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is a great place to see them! A show highlighting Disney Villains takes place at the park several times during the evening. You may step forwards after the shows to meet 'n greet the "evil" Disney Villains. Other meet 'n greet opportunities with Disney Characters take place at numerous different Greeting Stations throughout the park...and the characters will be wearing their Halloween costumes, too! 6.) Most of the Magic Kingdom's rides are open during Mickey's Halloween Party. This can be a very good time to enjoy the theme park's ride with very little waiting!
When can you go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party?
How much do tickets cost for this fun, Disney World Halloween event?
There's good news and bad news about Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. The GOOD news, of course, is that it's lots of fun. Family members of ALL ages can enjoy themselves. You can enjoy both Disney World and Halloween together at the same time...with more "fun factor" than "fear factor."The BAD news is that Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is an extra-fee event. You can't go to Mickey's Party with your regular admission ticket or annual passport. You MUST get special party tickets. Of course, this can be good, too, because you do NOT have to spend money visiting Disney World during the daytime, if you don't want to. You may purchase ONLY the party tickets, if you like. Since Mickey's Not So Scary Party is only held in from mid-September through the end of October every year, then tickets are not sold year-round. Every summer they go on sale FIRST to annual passholders. Then, every July, they are made available to the general public (online at www.DisneyWorld.com) If you plan to attend, then the sooner you purchase your tickets, the less likely the event will be sold out. If you do not wish to purchase tickets ahead of time ("in case something happens & we don't go") it is quite likely that there will be plenty of tickets available when you arrive in Florida...IF you choose a September or early October party date. However, if you plan to attend in the last several weeks before Halloween, it's a VERY good idea to get your tickets in advance. There isn't much purpose in making a trip to Orlando if you can't get into the party once you arrive! What if you want to purchase your tickets when you arrive in Orlando, but you can't print them out because you don't have a printer? That's not a problem. You may pre-purchase your tickets by phone when you get to Orlando...and have them hold your Halloween Party tickets at the Magic Kingdom's "Will Call" office. You may pick up your tickets once you arrive at the park. Or, if you REALLY don't mind risking the tickets being sold out, you may wait until you reach the Magic Kingdom's ticket booths to get them.
How much do Mickey's Not So Scary Party tickets cost? And, are discount tickets available?
Full price at the Magic Kingdom ticket booths in 2011 runs between $59.95 and $67.95 depending on the night (plus Florida's state sales tax). Tickets for kids age 3 through 9 cost between $53.95 and $62.95 plus tax, depending on the night. And, kids age 2 and under are admitted free of charge. (Note: The most popular nights for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party are when the highest ticket prices are charged. These dates for 2011 are Friday, Oct 28th and Monday, October 31st--Halloween night itself. Tickets cost more for both kids and adults on either of these nights.)
But, you'll probably want to save money by purchasing your tickets in advance. Why? Because Disney World offers online, print-at-home discounts to MOST nights of the party! The print-at-home discount ticket prices are either $53.95 or $56.95 (plus tax); and $47.95 or $51.95 for kids age 3 thru 9. PLUS, Annual Passport Holder discounts are also available for most nights of the party...but only if you pre-purchase them online. Unfortunately, the most popular nights of Mickey's Party are NOT eligible for Annual Passholder discounts. However, the very GOOD news is that you MAY combine your passport-holder discount along with your print-at-home discount to receive a double-sized discount on your party tickets! Note: Unfortunately, there is NO Florida resident discount for Mickey's Not So Scary Party tickets; Florida residents should take advantage of the print-at-home ticket discount and/or the annual pass holder discount. Where can you buy Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party tickets with the print-at-home discount? You can do that from the Mickey's Not So Scary Party ticketing page of the Disney World website. (You'll only find tickets available on this page when party time is drawing near, however. The rest of the year, it is blank.)
What are Mickey's Not So Scary Party dates for 2011?
Mickey's Not So Scary Party isn't held every day of the week. Every time there's a Halloween party in the Magic Kingdom, then the theme park must close early...which means that the daytime guests have less time than usual to enjoy the park's attractions. So, the Halloween party is held ONLY on selected nights. Here's the list of the 2011 Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party dates: Tuesday, September 13 Friday, September 16 Tuesday, September 20 Friday, September 23 Tuesday, September 27 Friday, September 30 Sunday, October 2 Thursday, October 6 Friday, October 7 (Note: this is full gate price; no print-at-home discount this date) Monday, October 10 Tuesday, October 11 Thursday, October 13 (Note: this is full gate price; no print-at-home discount this date) Sunday, October 16 Tuesday, October 18 Thursday, October 20 Friday, October 21 (Note: this is full gate price; no print-at-home discount this date) Sunday, October 23 Tuesday, October 25 Thursday, October 27 Friday, October 28 (Note: Premium Pricing of $67.95+ tax adults and $62.95+ tax ages 3-9 this night) Sunday, October 30 (Note: this is full gate price; no print-at-home discount this date) Monday, October 31 (Note: Premium Pricing of $67.95+ tax adults and $62.95+ tax ages 3-9 on this night) Tuesday, November 1st
What are the best nights to attend Mickey's Not So Scary party?
If you're visiting from out-of-town, it makes the most sense to attend on a weeknight (Tuesdays or Thursdays) or a Sunday. That's because Florida schools will be in session during September and October...and the local kids need to get to bed early on these nights. So, you'll have less competition from Florida families if you attend on weeknights. If you ARE a Florida family (and need to attend on a weekend), you will find heavier weekend crowds the closer you get to Halloween night. So, it pays to attend on September weekends...or during the first part of October! Good news! November 1st party date available in 2011! Hopefully, you are not one of the families who traveled all the way to Florida for Mickey's Party, only to be turned away. Or, one of the local families who always celebrates Halloween at Downtown Disney's free event...and arrives in 2011 to discover that the free Downtown Disney Halloween event has been abolished this year. (By then, it may be too late to get tickets for Halloween weekend or Halloween night at the Magic Kingdom's party!) However, if you find yourself in a situation where you can't get last-minute tickets in 2011, then you will be glad to know that Disney World is now anticipating these problems...and has a solution for them. This year, one after-Halloween date has been added to the schedule--on November 1st. If you wish to attend Mickey's Not So Scary Party on Halloween night & can't get in, then you have this extra November 1st date to fall back on. Attendance is expected to be light enough that there shouldn't be a sell-out situation on this night.
