Journey to Atlantis, Orlando
Sea World Orlando has a fun water ride you'll want to try!
In the slide show above, you're viewing pictures of the fun ride, Journey to Atlantis at Orlando's Sea World theme park. As you can see, you'll have fun plunging into a splash pool---and maybe get a soaking, too! And afterwards, you may explore the ride's lovely aquarium exhibit. On this page, you can find out about both the exciting and the educational parts of this attractive SeaWorld Orlando attraction.
What SeaWorld Orlando's Journey to Atlantis is like
Prepare to have some refreshing fun!
SeaWorld Orlando's Journey to Atlantis attraction is a water ride which features a roller coaster segment. In other words, it's two types of rides in one! You'll begin by boarding a boat and going through an indoor "dark ride" segment of the attraction. Located in the Atlantis building's interior, you'll float gently along as you view attractive decor and listen to an imaginative soundtrack. The ride's premise is that you've ventured to the lost underwater continent of Atlantis. Such a mythical place, of course, features mythical creatures...plus unusual decorations and an other-worldly atmosphere.
At first, you're welcomed by a friendly inhabitant, but during the course of your voyage, you accidentally raise the anger of a wicked sea witch. You're in trouble now! You swiftly find your self banished...and it isn't long before you're plunging sharply downwards... into a very real---and very WET---splash pool!
And what a huge splash your boat will make! You might want to plan ahead for this ride... ...because if you're not wearing one of SeaWorld's hooded plastic ponchos, you may get drenched! Even if you are...well, there's no guarantee you won't get wet. Water coming into your boat from the sides can get your shoes, socks and pants legs soaked, even if the splash itself misses you. (Bring a spare pair of flip flops along, maybe?)
Your boat's splash will be so huge that sometimes hot & tired onlookers will want to enjoy the cooling blast of water!Located to the side of the ride is a "soak zone" where some park guests stand to have fun getting drenched over & over as each new boat comes zooming down the slide!
But you're not done yet! After a leisurely time floating through the pool at the base of Atlantis, you'll find yourself being hoisted upwards once again. But THIS time, you're not headed for a sedate floating session in the building's dark interior--- You're in for some screaming fun as your boat abandons the water...and zooms along a roller coaster track, instead! The time you spend flying through the air ends all too quickly. You're plopped back into the water, and your boat makes its way to the unloading dock. Time to get back in line and do it all over again!
Orlando's Journey to Atlantis aquarium
"Jewels of the Sea" is small, but interesting...and unusual, too!
After you've had enough zooming, plunging...and getting soaked...you won't want to leave SeaWorld Orlando's Journey to Atlantis attraction without visiting the small-but-lovely "Jewels of the Sea" aquarium.Though it isn't large, you'll find a couple of unusual exhibits here...including some you'll surely NOT want to miss.
One amazing feature is that you'll find is a beautiful aquarium tank on the floor! Obviously, if you have babies or small kids, they'll immediately want to crawl across the top of this tank and spend some time staring at the fish below. But, even if you're fully grown, you can't help but marvel at this inventive exhibit. While you're standing on the floor-level fish tank, don't forget to look upwards! You'll find an aquarium tank on the ceiling, as well!
Jellyfish-lovers (and who isn't?) will want to make a stop inside the aquarium to view the Comb Jellyfish there. While a number of various aquariums offer jellyfish displays, it's fairly unusual to come across an exhibit of the Comb variety. Comb jellyfish are a small species of jellyfish--an adult of only 6 to 8 inches long would be considered large. Their frail and fragile beauty can be appreciated at SeaWorld's exhibit tank where you can choose to see them either with--or without--special lighting. When you turn off the lights to the tank, they turn nearly invisible and almost "disappear." Once you push a button, on comes a light...and the comb jellyfish can be seen once again.
Moon Jellyfish, on the other hand, are "old standbys" at aquarium displays in many places. So, they've become a very popular jellyfish with the crowd, and have many admirers. And why not? Their sheer body and lacy tentacles make them so lovely. It's hard to believe that such a beautiful creature could ever have such a painful sting! Other aquarium exhibits at SeaWorld Orlando: If visiting the "Jewels of the Sea" aquarium has put you in the mood to observe fish and other sea creatures, you will want to make your way towards the Shark Encounter attraction. Not only will you see scary sharks, but you'll also see other fascinating fish and learn plenty of fun facts about them, as well!
